We are looking for voluntary Performers/Co-Recitors to learn and recite from memory individual Articles from the Declaration, in your preferred language, to present a recitation of the entire Declaration with artist Monica Ross. The UDHR is translated into 385 languages and to date more than 400 people have taken part in this work in over 50 languages. Although the text remains the same, each voice gives its own context and we are encouraging participants to celebrate the diversity of languages spoken in Cardiff and Wales. We are inviting groups and individuals to take part in this unique event at Chapter. Please join us for a workshop with Monica Ross at 7pm on Thursday 01 November, where she will talk about the project and outline how it will work at Chapter. The performance will take place at 12 noon on Saturday 24 November.

Pen-blwydd: Gweithred o Gofio

Galw am gyfranwyr sy’n siarad Cymraeg

Mae Experimentica yn ddigwyddiad allweddol sy’n cyflwyno perfformiadau a phrosiectau rhyngddisgyblaethol newydd ym meysydd celfyddyd weledol, ffilm, fideo, celfyddyd sain, dawns a theatr. Mae’r ŵyl yn cael ei chynnal rhwng 21 a 25 Tachwedd a bydd rhagor o wybodaeth ar gael ar ein gwefan yn fuan: www.chapter.org

Fel rhan o’r ŵyl eleni rydym wedi comisiynu prosiect o’r enw ‘Pen-blwydd – Gweithred o Gofio,’ cyfres o berfformiadau mewn 60 act, fydd yn canolbwyntio ar bwysigrwydd a pherthnasedd y Datganiad Cyffredinol o Hawliau Dynol.

Bydd yn cynnwys perfformwyr gwirfoddol a fydd yn dysgu ac yn adrodd o gof Erthyglau unigol o’r Datganiad, yn eu dewis iaith, er mwyn ffurfio’r Datganiad cyfan ar y cyd â’r artist Monica Ross. Mae’r Datganiad Cyffredinol o Hawliau Dynol wedi ei gyfieithu i 385 o ieithoedd ac, hyd yn hyn, mae mwy na 400 o bobl wedi cymryd rhan yn y gwaith hwn mewn mwy na 50 o ieithoedd. Er nad yw’r testun yn newid, mae pob llais yn cyfrannu ei gyd-destun ei hun ac rydym yn annog cyfranogwyr i ddathlu amrywiaeth ieithyddol Caerdydd a Chymru.

Rydym yn gwahodd grwpiau ac unigolion i gymryd rhan yn y digwyddiad unigryw hwn yn Chapter. Ymunwch â ni am weithdy gyda Monica Ross am 7pm ar ddydd Iau, 1 Tachwedd, lle bydd hi’n siarad am y prosiect ac yn amlinellu sut y bydd yn mynd ati i weithio yn Chapter. Caiff y perfformiad dilynol ei gynnal ar ganol dydd, ddydd Sadwrn, 24 Tachwedd.

Caiff pob darn adrodd ei ffurfio mewn modd unigryw gan y cynhyrchwyr a’r adroddwyr fydd yn ei gyflwyno. Er bod y testun – a’r dyheadau a restrir oddi mewn iddo – yn ddigyfnewid, mae’r amrywiaeth o leisiau, sydd yn adrodd y geiriau mewn gwahanol ieithoedd, yn golygu bod pob perfformiad yn benodol i’w briod gymuned a chyd-destun. Caiff pob darn adrodd ei gofnodi hefyd a’i bostio ar-lein fel archif agored y gellir ei rannu’n rhwydd â chymuned ehangach ar www.actsofmemory.net www.youtube.com/actofmemory

In the run up to the recitation we’ll gradually update the list of Co-Recitors below. Recitors in all languages are welcome. Please choose an Article that matters to you, and more than one recitation of each article, especially in different languages, is very welcome.

to all involved on Saturday a big hug!
what a great occasion, it was very moving and far more than just individual people reading short pieces.
A wonderful energy and there was a real sense of achievement.
it was lovely to meet so many good people – what a way to start the weekend.
take care all and to Monica good luck with your amazing work and vision.

    Dear Chris,
Thank you very much – it’s great that you can do 2 Articles in different languages. By coincidence there are equivalent flyers ( to the one above in English and Welsh) which can be downloaded in Catalan and .. Castilian on these pages:
    Catalan
    http://www.actsofmemory.net/recitations-to-date/fem-2012/
    Castilian

As at Chapter there will be a collective recitation in Girona on 01 December and it is likely that it will substantially be spoken in Catalan. Meantime the project’s performance posters in Welsh and Catalan have just been on a journey together to Madrid and can be downloaded here:

looking forward to meeting you on Saturday!

    Hi Monica
Thank you for the reply – it’s a huge challenge I know and i really hoped to do a shorter one but education is so close to my heart so I just had to try it!

I also chose it as a mark of my respect towards Malala Yousafzai who seems quite fearless – so how can I be afraid of having some words to learn?

Thank you so much for your inspiring talk last week

    Kind regards

you’ve done it lesley! thanks so much- Article 26 is quite a demand to memorise but so important, thank you.

    Article 26
    1. Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit.
    2. Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace.
    3. Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children.

    Hi Monica,

Thank you so much for your wonderful introduction to the project the ‘Anniversary -an act of memory’ on the 1st of November. I have been thinking about the act in which i woud like to recite for the event on 24th, and Article 3 stood out for me. The article is short, yet direct and encompases the fundamental basic rights of all humans – ‘Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person’. I would like to recite the article in my second language Welsh.

I look forward to the 24th!

      Dear Melissa,
it will be wonderful to hear this article spoken in Welsh. as you say , article 3 is concise and fundamental and also the right that profoundly underpins the origin of this entire work- thank you very much and very much look forward to working with you on the 24th.
